As we saw in the post Does BBQ Meat Cause Cancer?, using leaner cuts of meat such as turkey and chicken help to amount of fat that drips and causes flare ups and therefore reduces harmful carcinogens. Here is a classic turkey burger that will be a family favourite.

Turkey burger

What you need:

  • 1/3 cup finely diced onion
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup almond flour
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 6 leaves of romaine lettuce (use as the bun)
  • Avocado (mash and put on top)
  • Veggies as toppings (mushrooms, sauté onions)

What to do:

In a bowl combine almond flour, turkey, eggs, salt and pepper. Once combined evenly, divide mixture into 3 equal parts, roll and flatten. Place on a plate. Heat grill and place on the grill. Grill until cooked throughout, about 3-5 min per side. Meanwhile, on a plate lay out the lettuce leaves and 1/3 avocado for each burger, place the cooked burger on top. Top with vegetable of your choice. Finish with second piece of lettuce and enjoy.
