Product of the Month : Almond Milk

Why we like it:

It is great tasting alternative to dairy – and soy! This versatile drink can be added to smoothies, mixed with protein powder post-workout or stirred into a coffee/tea or poured over cereal.

Almonds can lower cholesterol when part of a diet low in saturated fat. They are an excellent source of calcium, vitamin D and are one of the leading food sources of vitamin E, which supports immunity and healthy skin.

What’s its breakdown?

Almond milk tends to be lower in calories and carbohydrates and is a source of healthy monounsaturated fats, but it’s also low in protein. The unsweetened variety is the closest beverage you will find to water with only 2g of carbohydrates, 1g protein and 3g of fat. If you are altering mcc meals, beware of the sweetened varieties as the vanilla has 16g carbohydrate and the chocolate flavour has close to 22g carbohydrates per serving!

3 ways to use Almond Milk this month…

1. As your liquid in your next mcc smoothie – this will allow you to pack your smoothie with just a little more fruit than you would if you used regular milk.  Just remember to use 1 full scoop of protein powder.

2. Substituted for milk in your coffee, tea or latte.

3. As part of our Creamy Alfredo sauce – May’s recipe of the month
