There is no way to spin it, shake it or drink it…alcohol is not healthy! Yes we all know that a glass of wine has resveratrol – a powerful antioxidant, we now can buy light or skinny or low carb versions of any drink – but overall there is more downside to alcohol than up.
Alcohol is a depressant, it will spike your blood sugar, must visit your liver on its way out, is 7 calories per gram, will influence your judgment of everything – especially what you eat, bottom line…more than a few drinks a week and you will be bumped out of the “fat burning” zone.
All that being said, with the warm weather, the social gatherings…we will crave, we will want, and we will drink! This summer, try something a little new: KOMBUCHA tea has entered the beverage market over the last few years and is making its mark. Kombucha tea is high in probiotics making it great on gut, nourishing healthy bacterial growth. KOMBUCHA has a spritzer like taste making it a great addition to bartenders drink list. Here are three healthyish alcoholic beverages…combine the following and serve all on the rocks!
- Spin on vodka and soda! – 1.5 oz. vodka + 2 tsp simple syrup + 3 oz. ginger flavored kombucha + 3/4 oz. lime juice.
- Pump the red – smash 1/4 cup of pomegranate and 4 mint leaves, then pour 2 oz. bourbon and 4 oz.rosehip kombucha. Add ice and stir with a spoon.
- Sangria substitutor – this makes a FULL jug NOT a single serve :)… 1 bottle of dry white wine plus 28 oz. any kombucha tea flavour plus 1/2 cup rum mix with ice and garnish with sliced lemons and oranges.
