So the hype of the new year’s resolution tends to die down by now for most – this article looks at strategies for you to revitalize your resolution goals!  Here are my top 4 strategies to help you hold your new year’s resolution …

Make sure your resolution is a process vs result

Many people make their resolution about a goal that is result based – its great to direct your sail but you still need to know how to sail – shift your goal strategy this month – focus on the process that will help you lose weight.  Make your goal nutrition or exercise focused.

Example … this week I will exercise 3 times, this week I will ensure I eat 2 servings of vegetables per day …

Stick to one thing

If you want to change your life or your lifestyle don’t try to change the whole thing at once. It won’t work. Instead, pick one area of your life to change, to begin with.  I see it all the time – trying to do grade 4 work in grade one – this tends to lead to premature failure.  Pick one goal and even just for today and stick with it

Example – today I will make sure I drink 2 L of water, today I will strive to hit 10000 steps …

Track your progress

There’s nothing more motivating than seeing how far you’ve come. If you want to give yourself extra reassurance that you are heading in the right direction, track your progress.  Most will assume tracking means weighing yourself to see if you went up or down on the scale.  Instead track means – taking your goal and checking if you have accomplished it

Example – this week – create a simple tracking system for your goal – lets assume it is that you plan to exercise 3 times per week.  Draw a chart of 7 days and check off completion of your exercise.  Trust me – if you have to track it – you will elevate your compliance by 20%!

Expect and Accept Failure

Whether you have small or big goals, failure is normal. If you do fail… don’t hate yourself for it.  First re-evaluate your goals and ensure that your goals are doable and then reset at that moment.  Everyone will fail – you are human.
